Challenge
The workshop sought to engage 35 product designers and engineers from the energy sector in a foresight exercise. They were tasked with projecting into the future, considering the complex interplay of megatrends and polycrises, to innovate product prototypes for 2030.
Approach
Utilizing a 'futuresstorm', the workshop explored five pivotal inflection points where significant trends and crises intersect.
Participants were encouraged to think deeply about the future, pushing beyond traditional boundaries to envision product solutions that address emerging challenges and leverage opportunities.
Outcomes
1) Futures Prototyping
The session ended with innovative product prototypes, designed with foresight to meet the future's complex demands, reflecting a good understanding of the interplay between societal trends and sector-specific challenges
2) Cultural Evolution
The exercise marked a significant step towards embedding a culture of future-readiness within the organization, emphasizing the value of a long-term perspective and the importance of proactive adaptation to forthcoming changes.
