Whiria te Anamata – The Great Re-Weaving
📍 Multicultural Recreation and Community Centre
📅 19 June 2026
⏰ 08:30 – 17:00
The Aotearoa Futures Forum 2026 brings together those shaping, stewarding, and resourcing the future across local, regional, and national contexts in New Zealand.
Framed around the idea of re-weaving the future, the forum invites participants to confront the present, let go of outdated systems, and actively build what comes next.
Whiria te Anamata — The Great Re-Weaving
The forum is structured around three interconnected strands:
Acknowledge
Where do we stand today?
Participants explore current realities across systems and scales, recognising the perspectives and worldviews shaping both challenges and opportunities.
Release
What needs to be let go?
This strand focuses on confronting the “used future” — questioning inherited systems and mindsets that no longer serve, and opening space for new possibilities.
Transform
What do we build instead?
The final strand turns toward action: identifying practical steps, building momentum, and exploring what it means to act as good ancestors in shaping long-term change.
Purpose
The forum is designed as a space for:
Navigating uncertainty together
Connecting across sectors and responsibilities
Translating foresight into tangible ideas and actions
Strengthening collective capacity to shape futures
Participation
Early bird registrations are open until 30 April 2026.
Set in Christchurch and grounded in a strong sense of collective responsibility, the Aotearoa Futures Forum offers a reflective and action-oriented approach to futures thinking — one that moves from acknowledging the present to actively transforming what comes next.
