The OECD Government Foresight Community (GFC) is a network of public sector foresight practitioners that facilitates the exchange of insights and information on strategic foresight developments aimed at improving policy making. The GFC holds three main events annually: an in-person GFC Annual Meeting in October, a virtual GFC Day in April, and a series of virtual masterclasses with foresight experts throughout the year.
Annual GFC Meeting
The Annual Meeting, held every October at the OECD Headquarters, focuses on two key areas: the methodologies and institutionalization of strategic foresight on the first day, and its application to thematic issues on the second. Due to capacity constraints, participation is by invitation only. Recordings of the opening remarks by the OECD Secretary-General, as well as meeting summaries, are made available online for broader access.
The GFC Annual Meeting provides a platform for exchanging best practices and fostering collaboration among foresight practitioners, contributing to the ongoing development of public sector foresight capabilities.
Overview
Since its establishment in 2014, the GFC has brought together over 700 foresight professionals from more than 50 countries, including OECD members and beyond. The community focuses on enhancing foresight capabilities across the public sector, sharing collective experience, and applying futures thinking to contemporary global challenges. The GFC also serves as an informal network for collaboration among public sector foresight professionals and contributes to OECD foresight projects.
