The Oceania Futures and Foresight Symposium 2026 is a community-led gathering for futurists, foresight practitioners, and the futures-curious across the Oceania region. Following the first symposium in April 2025, this second edition returns to Meanjin to deepen connections, share practical craft, and explore futures through a distinctly Oceanic lens.
Theme (2026): “Seeking Tomorrow: Navigating Futures Through Oceanic Knowing”
The symposium invites participants to navigate complexity by honouring ancestral wisdom, creative courage, and collective care—with an explicit ambition to foreground Indigenous, Pacific, and Oceanic ways of knowing in responsible, culturally grounded ways.
What to expect
• Over 20 speakers and contributors
• 80% experiential sessions: immersive, practical, and practice-based
• A takeaway playbook of materials and presentations
• A strong emphasis on deep listening, diverse voices, and courageous ideas
Two-day flow
Day 1: Collective Compass — Exploring the echoes of our Ancestors
A day grounded in wisdom, storytelling, context, and connection.
Guiding question: How can expansive ways of knowing help us orient ourselves in uncertainty?
Day 2: Journeying Together — Designing Transformational Futures
A day focused on moving from insight to action through foresight practice, scenario work, creativity, and innovation—shaped by oceanic approaches.
Guiding question: How do we translate knowledge into collective action toward the futures we want across Oceania?
Community-led and non-profit
This is a volunteer-organised, non-profit event with no corporate or institutional sponsor. Speakers donate their time, and attendees cover travel and accommodation. Ticket fees support the venue, catering, and administration—keeping the gathering accessible and sustainable.
